Search goal: Identify Carlotta’s biological father

Carlotta is an adoptee who reached out for help with finding her biological father. She knew her biological maternal side already, and even had some non-identifying information, but it just wasn’t aligning with her DNA results.

I took a look at her AncestryDNA results as a collaborator and could see that Carlotta had a good amount of paternal DNA matches. Her paternal matches were entirely Italian and split into two distinct match groups- the Sacchetti family group and the Abbate family group. Her four closest matches were part of both groups, but none of them had trees.

After some digging and looking at trees of the Sacchetti and Abbate families I finally found the union couple that connected the families. They were a couple that had come to Canada from Italy with many of their children. Per their obituaries, they had four sons, and I knew Carlotta’s biological father was one of the four.

I figured her matches that were part of both groups would be able to help eliminate one or more of the brothers as possible bio dads. And I was able to eliminate one, at least- Carlotta’s closest paternal match Matthew was also adopted, per Facebook, and he listed his biological father as one of the four brothers.

The remaining three brothers were very hard to find any information on. I did find a few newspaper articles about one brother, Carmine, which even included his age. He was the same age as Carlotta’s biological mother, which seemed promising.

I found a Facebook profile for Carmine and Carlotta reached out, introducing herself and explaining the search. To our pleasant surprise he remembered her biological mother and even agreed to do a paternity test. This confirmed that Carmine was Carlotta’s biological father. She is happy to have found her answers and glad to have been able to meet Carmine.
