Search goal: Identify Hazel’s biological father
Hazel reached out for help with finding her biological father. She had some non-identifying information about him from her adoption information, and had done an AncestryDNA test. Hazel’s maternal aunt had also tested, which made splitting the matches easy.
Her paternal matches split into two groups: the Bramwell group, which had matches mainly from England, and the McMurray group, which were mainly from Scotland.
I took a look at the tree of the best match, which was a man from the Bramwell side in the range to be a first cousin once removed to Hazel. I took a look at his tree and saw that he had a Bramwell uncle that had moved from England to the city in Ontario where Hazel was born. He had married a woman born in Scotland with the last name McMurray, who had also immigrated to Canada with her parents.
The Bramwell/McMurray union couple had three sons and a daughter, just like Hazel’s paperwork stated about her bio dad’s family. I was able to find the obituary for the middle son who had unfortunately passed away many years ago. Hazel’s paperwork accurately described him and his age matched the info she had as well.
She was pleased that this was a quick search that only took about half an hour from start to end. Although her bio dad has passed away, Hazel looks forward to getting to know her two paternal half sisters and her other bio relatives.
