Search goal: Identify Carl’s biological father
Carl reached out for help with his search for his biological father about a year ago. He had found his biological mother already but needed some help with the paternal side. Carl had done an AncestryDNA test, so he sent me an invite to his results and I got started.
Carl’s paternal matches split into two main groups, and his top match was just over 400cm. Fortunately many of the paternal matches had good trees which made it easy to find the common last names of each group. These were Mayhew and Stebbins.
The Mayhew family group was mostly based in England- most of the matches still lived there. One of the closer matches, a lady named Clara who I figured was going to be a first cousin twice removed to Carl, had a nicely built tree and I noticed right away that she had a Mayhew uncle that had moved to Canada.
This uncle of Clara’s had several children, and one of his daughters had married a man with the last name Stebbins. This was excellent to find and was just what I was hoping to see.
The Mayhew-Stebbins union couple had three sons of their own, who were all in the right age range and all lived not too far from where Carl was born.
Since none of the three brothers or their children had done a DNA test yet, I couldn’t determine further which brother was Carl’s biological father. I suggested Carl reach out to them to find out more and see if any of them would be willing to test. Eventually, contact was made, and the oldest Stebbins brother agreed to test and came back as a match as Carl’s biological father. Carl is pleased to have his answers and be able to fill out the paternal side of his biological family tree.
